Form and usage:

This affix is actually a nominal affix, N{(q)viaq}N, but here used verbally. The meaning is also nearly the same: 'Subject Vb really/exactly' or 'precisely' or similar. It is often used with negation, e.g. V{ŋŋit}V, in the sense of 'not really'.

Left sandhi:

The affix alternates between being additive and truncative. According to the examples, it appears to behave as follows:

Meanings and examples

Or 'precisely' or similar. Often used with negation in the sense of 'not really'.

  • sila pitsanngorpiarneq ajorpoq, the weather does not (ever) become really good [11]

The relevant stem here is pitsanngor-, 'become good', and with the pseudo-morpheme construction V{nəq ajuq}V.

  • ajorpianngilaq, it is really good [11]

From ajorpoq, 'it is bad', so literally 'it is not really bad'.

  • marlunngorpiarpoq, it is exactly 2 o'clock [14]

From marlunngorpoq, 'it is 2 o'clock'.

  • marlunut qiteqquterpiarpoq, it is exactly half-past one [14]

From qiteqquppoq, 'it is half-(something)' of the clock. Note, this is a t(ə)-stem, and the affix appears as truncative.

  • taamaappiarpoq, it is exactly thus [14]

    From taamaappoq, 'it is thus'.
