Description and behaviour
Form and usage:
This affix appears to be a verbal variant of the affix N{-ruucaq}N, albeit with a somewhat different meaning. Schultz-Lorentzen [11] translates it as 'Vb moderately'. It is not mentioned in newer dictionaries such as Oqaatsit [14], so it is presumably not used productively.
Meanings and examples
- ajoruusarpoq, it is moderately bad
[11]
From ajorpoq, 'it is bad'.
- oqaloruusarpoq, he babbles; chit-chats
[11]
From oqaluppoq, 'he talks'.
- sanaruusarpoq, he fumbles with his work
[11]
From sanavoq, 'he makes something', so literally 'he makes something moderately (bad)' or 'mediocre'.
