Description and behaviour

Form and usage:

This affix is a combination of the negation affix V{ŋŋit}V, and a non-productive morpheme V{-suŋaq}V, which seems to mean 'almost/nearly'. Strangely, the present affix has the same meaning, despite containing a negation; i.e. according to Nielsen [FAJN19], the meaning of the present affix is 'Agent almost/nearly Vb Patient' with a dramatic element.

    From anguaa, 'he catches (up with) him'.

  • apunngisungarpaa, he nearly bumped into it [CBBJRPIKJR97]

    From aporpaa, 'he bumps into it'. Note: this transitive form is not in Oqaatsit, but it is mentioned in Kleinschmidt [SK71].

  • tikinngisungarpaa, he nearly reached it [CBBJRPIKJR97]

    From tikippaa, 'he reaches it'.
