Description and behaviour
Form and usage:
This affix is historically a verbal variant of N{-aluk}N, albeit with a somewhat different meaning: 'Subject Vb a little, here and there'.
However, Schultz-Lorentzen [CWSL58] gives a somewhat different translation: 'Subject is rather Vb'ing', seemingly with stems denoting a state of being.
Meanings and examples
- ammaaluppoq, it is open here and there
[CBBJRPIKJR97]
- ikiuutialuppoq, he is helping out a bit, here and there
[CBBJRPIKJR97]
From ikiuuppoq, a t(ə)-stem. Note that (ə) is injected, but it does not take the sound [a], even though it is followed by a vowel.
- suialuppoq, there is a bit of a draught
[CBBJRPIKJR97]
From suerpoq, 'there is a draught'. The stem is avalent, and this example illustrates that this valency is preserved by the affix.
