Description and behaviour

Form and usage:

According to Oqaatsit [CBBJRPIKJR97], the meaning of this affix is 'Actor is become more Vb'ing'. It only seems to be used with adjectival bases, and in general does not appear to be used much productively.

Etymology and form
This affix is listed in Ordbogeeraq [JP67], spelt -gtípoĸ in the old orthography; Oqaatsit [CBBJRPIKJR97], spelt -tsippoq in the new orthography; and in Nielsen's affix list [FAJN19], where he records it as TSIT. It is not recorded in the Comparative Eskimo Dictionary [MFSJLK10], and it is difficult to determine its origin from these forms. However, it seems reasonable to assume that the final part is V{tət}V, here used in a reflexive sense 'has let itself be'.

The first part is even less clear, since it is a single consonant. The old orthography spelling -gtípoĸ suggests that it must be a velar consonant, i.e. /k/, /g/ or /ŋ/. There are not many single-consonant morphemes, but one of them is N{'-k}V, although this is normally used on noun stems. However, the Comparative Eskimo Dictionary does actually note that this morpheme may be used on a few verbal stems, in the sense of 'become Vb'ing', albeit this only appears to be in lexicalised constructions. Thus, one possibility is thus that the present affix in fact is just V{tət}V, used on adjectival stems derived with this verbal usage of N{'-k}V. However, as this is speculative, we record the first part of this affix as unknown.

Right sandhi:

Right sandhi is inherited from the right-most component, V{tət}V. See this for details.
