Description and behaviour
Form and usage:
The meaning of this stem is: 'Agent asks Patient (about something@INS)'.
Here, the topic of the question can optionally be added as a modifier in the instrumental case.
Alternatively, the topic of the question can be given as an object clause.
If used intransitively, the Patient role is dropped, so the meaning becomes: 'Actor=Agent asks'.
Then, a modifier in the instrumental case could either be the addressee or the topic of the question.
Note that the stem denotes the action of asking a single question, i.e. asking once.
If the Agent is questioning the Patient, i.e. asking multiple questions, a repetition affix would be needed.
Inflection sandhi:
The stem inflect with ə-contracted endings. This may sometimes be omitted in the indicative mood (depending on the speaker's preference), but it is still mandatory in the contemporative mood.
Meanings and examples
If used intransitively, a modifier in the instrumental case could either be the addressee or the topic of the question. The stem denotes asking once, so if repeated questioning is meant, a repetition affix is needed.
