Description and behaviour
Form and usage:
The meaning of this base is 'Agent loves Patient'.
According to Kleinschmidt [SK71], if an anti-passive construction is used (i.e. with HTR), the Patient can either be indicated in the instrumental case (as usual), or in the allative case (which is unusual).
He also claims that 'love' can be understood in a range of different senses; from just showing kindness towards someone, to love in our usual understanding of the word.
Notable forms:
-
HTR:
{asa}V + V{nnək}V ⇒ /asannək/
The HTR form is mentioned in both Kleinschmidt [SK71] and Oqaatsit [CBBJRPIKJR97].
-
Passive participle:
{asa}V + V{-ðaq}N ⇒ /asacaq/

Meanings and examples
The HTR construction with Patient in the allative case is likely not common. It is only mentioned in Kleinschmidt [SK71], but not in the other dictionaries.
- asaqatigiinniaritsi!, try to be kind to each other!
[SK71]
From {asa}V + V{-qatəgiik}V + V{niaq}V + V{-gitci}. This could be said by a parent admonishing a couple of children/siblings who have been fighting.
- asaqaanga, he loves me very much
[SK71]
According to Kleinschmidt, this can be literal, but it can also simply mean that he once gave me something.
