Description and behaviour
Form and usage:
The usual meaning of this stem is 'Actor goes down', or 'descends'.
Kleinschmidt [SK71] mentions that it optionally may be used with a transitive ending, in the sense of 'Agent brings Patient down'.
However, this meaning would more commonly be achieved by adding V{-(cc)ut(ə)}V, i.e. aqquppaa.
Right sandhi:
In some cases, when a vowel-initial affix is added, it appears that the /ə/ historically may have dropped, like a noun stem with metathesis when a vowel-initial ending is added. For example:
- {atəq}V + V{-(cc)ut(ə)}V ⇒ /atqut(ə)/ ⇒ aqquppaa, 'he brings it down'.
However, this is a lexicalised example, and this process does not appear to happen in modern combinations. Thus, we do not record any special right-sandhi phenomena.
