Description and behaviour
Form and usage:
The meaning of this stem is 'Actor fishes'.
According to Kleinschmidt [SK71], it may also be used transitively in the sense of: 'Agent fishes at Patient', where Patient denotes a location.
However, this usage is not in the newer Oqaatsit dictionary [CBBJRPIKJR97].
Thus, it is likely not used transitively nowadays.
Etymology and form
According to the Comparative Eskimo Dictionary [MFSJLK10], the stem actually derives from a historical combination of {aula}V + V{saq}V ⇒ /aulasaq/. Kleinschmidt also notes that this form is the one used in Labrador, and it is also used in North Greenland. However, the form with /i/ is the standard in Kalaallisut, so that is the form we record here, rather than recording it as a combination. It is also not explained how the /a/ has become /i/.Inflection

Meanings and examples
According to Kleinschmidt [SK71] also transitively: 'Agent fishes at Patient' (a location), but this usage is not in later dictionaries.
