Description and behaviour
Form and usage:
The meaning of this stem is 'Agent makes/builds/processes Patient'
It is agentive, so with intransitive endings, the meaning is the same: '; Agent=Actor makes/builds/processes (Patient@INS)'.
Kleinschmidt [SK71] describes it thus: "makes something from something else by his hands; giving it, by his work, the form/quality it should have; processes the raw materials, especially carving in wood, bone etc. It is almost exclusively used about a man's work." Thus, it clearly indicates some form of physical construction or processing (and not e.g. writing a text).
Notable forms:
-
Passive participle:
{sana}V + V{-ðaq}N ⇒ /sanaaq/
This passive participle is an old formation, using the variant form {aq}, rather than *sanasaq, which would be the regular formation nowadays.
