Description and behaviour

Form and usage:

This affix is a straightforward combination of N{tu}V (have big) and V{-gə}V (consider). Hence, the meaning is 'Agent considers Patient to have (too) big N'. Note also the antonym N{-kigə}V.

Left sandhi:

Left sandhi is inherited from the left-most component, N{tu}V. See this for details.

Meanings and examples

  • nerutugaa, he considers it too wide
    [10]

From {nəru}N, 'width' (spatial noun stem). The nominal base is not recorded in any dictionary, but compare nerutuvoq, 'it is spacious, wide'.

  • akisugaa, he considers it too expensive
    [10]

From aki, 'price', literally 'to have a small price'. The true /i/ in the stem causes /t/ to assibilate to /s/ by the t-to-s rule.
