Description and behaviour

Form and usage:

The meaning of this affix is 'Vb'ing is forbidden' or 'nobody may Vb' or similar. It is a straightforward combination of V{ðuqaq}V, 'there is Vb'ing', used in an avalent sense, and V{ssa}V + V{ŋŋit}V, 'shall not'. Thus, a more literal translation would be: 'there shall not be Vb'ing'.

The affix only makes sense on monovalent stems (or stems that can be used intransitively), because of the presence of V{ðuq}N.

Left sandhi:

Left sandhi is inherited from the left-most component, V{ðuqaq}V. See this for details.

Right sandhi:

Right sandhi is inherited from the right-most component, V{ŋŋit}V. See this for details.

Inflection sandhi:

Inflection sandhi is inherited from the right-most component, V{ŋŋit}V. See this for details.
