Description and behaviour
Form and usage:
This affix means something like 'be careful! there is a danger that Subject will Vb'.
It is a variant of the (seemingly non-productive) V{galuktuaq}V, which is extended with V{-qə}V for further emphasis, and this form seems to be used productively today.
Meanings and examples
This meaning is not always a fitting translation. The effect of this affix seems to be to issue a warning of some kind.
- nakkaraluttuaqaaq!, Careful! he is about to fall down!
[11]
From nakkarpoq, he falls down.
- qanormitaava iligaluttuaqaa?, how will that go, I wonder?
[11]
From qanormitaava, 'how (I wonder)?' and {ət}V, '
Actoris (in a certain way)' followed by V{-liq}V, 'begin to'. The ending is interrogative 3sg V{va?}, where the /v/ is deleted because V{-qə}V has schwa-contraction of endings.
