Form and usage:

According to the Comparative Eskimo Dictionary [16], the root of this affix is {tyaiq}, i.e. it is formed through an old combination of the verbal future affix V{ssa}V and the privative morpheme V{-iq}V, but the resulting meaning is not obvious from the meanings of the constituents: 'Subject no longer Vb' or 'Subject has stopped Vb'ing' or 'has ceased to Vb' etc. It is implied that the Subject was previously (regularly/habitually) Vb'ing, but that this is no longer the case. The affix thus appears to be synonymous with V{yuknaiq}V, which also contains V{-iq}V, and they may be used interchangeably.
