Description and behaviour

Form and usage:

This is a straightforward combination of V{yuknaq}V, 'probably', and the negation affix V{ŋŋit}V. The affix V{yuknaq}V is not used productively nowadays, but this combination with V{ŋŋit}V is used productively, hence we record it here as a separate entry. It denotes a conviction that the Subject will not Vb.

Right sandhi:

Right sandhi is inherited from the right-most component, V{ŋŋit}V. See this for details.

Inflection sandhi:

Inflection sandhi is inherited from the right-most component, V{ŋŋit}V. See this for details.

Meanings and examples

It expresses a quite certain conviction on behalf of the speaker.

  • ammajunnanngilaq, it is probably not open
    [8]

E.g. a store, from ammavoq, 'it is open'.

  • allakkunnanngilaq, he will probably not write (a letter)
    [4]

From allappoq, 'he writes (a letter)'.

  • saperunnanngilaq, he will undoubtedly make it
    [8]

I.e., he is able to perform some action. From saperpoq, 'he is unable to '. Because of the negation in the affix, the meaning becomes positive.
