Description and behaviour
Form and usage:
This affix is a variant of V{(q)viaq}V, but here used on nominal stems, seemingly in the sense of 'is really/exactly N'. This usage is mentioned in Kleinschmidt [9] and Schultz-Lorentzen [11], but not in Ordbogeeraq [12] or Oqaatsit [14], so it is presumably not used productively. However, it may be seen in some lexicalised constructions.
Meanings and examples
Or 'precisely' or similar. Often used with negation in the sense of 'not really'.
- qiterpiarpaa, he divides it exactly at the middle
[9]
From qiteq, 'middle'. Note that this usage here is divalent, without a valency-increasing morpheme. This is uncommon, and the word is lexicalised in this sense.
- amerlarpianngillat, they are not really many
[9]
From amerlaq, 'many'. Thus, the meaning is 'they are many (but not as many as they could have been)'.
