Description and behaviour

Form and usage:

This is a non-productive morpheme found in a number of lexicalised words. According to Kleinschmidt [9], the present affix denotes "'Subject Vb with a degree of pleasure (such that he continues)', and from this also 'Subject continues to Vb'".

According to the Comparative Eskimo Dictionary [16], the affix is (somehow) related to N{nnaaq}N and V{(n)niq}V. In particular, when a word is derived with the latter affix, there often also seems to be another word derived with the present affix.

  • nuannaarpoq, he is happy; joyous [11]
