Description and behaviour

Form and usage:

According to the Comparative Eskimo Dictionary [MFSJLK10], the meaning of this stem is 'learn'. The stem is not recorded in the Oqaatsit dictionary [CBBJRPIKJR97], but it is listed in older dictionaries [SK71], [CWSL58], [JP67], so it is presumably not used productively nowadays.

Meanings and examples

Kleinschmidt [SK71] elaborates: 'he has acquired knowledge of something that he did not previously know'.

  • ilinniagassakka ilippakka, I have now learned (done) my homework [SK71]

Note: this example is from a time when homework likely often would involve memorising something, so it makes sense to say that one has learned his homework.
