Description and behaviour
Form and usage:
The meaning of this stem is 'Agent shoots Patient'.
According to Kleinschmidt [SK71], the stem is reflexive, so if used intransitively without a HTR morpheme, the meaning becomes reflexive: 'Agent=Patient shoots himself'.
Etymology
According to the Comparative Eskimo Dictionary [MFSJLK10], the stem is derived from {aullaq}V, 'take off' (here likely in the sense of a bullet being fired), and the morpheme V{ði}V, with drop of the initial /ð/, as is usual on q-stems with this morpheme. However, the presence of the latter is surprising, since this is normally a HTR-morpheme, and it is entirely unclear what it contributes to the meaning of the present stem, and why the stem remains divalent.Right sandhi:
The final /i/ in the stem may assibilate a following /t/ to /s/. This is in particular seen in the derived stem {aullaitə}N.
