Description and behaviour
Form and usage:
The meaning of this stem is: 'Agent erects Patient' or 'Agent stands Patient on its end'.
Kleinschmidt [SK71] notes that this in particular may be used of a cooper, who sets the planks in an upright position when making a barrel.
When the stem is used intransitively without a HTR-morpheme, the meaning becomes passive: 'Actor=Patient is erected/stood on its end'.
According to the Comparative Eskimo Dictionary [MFSJLK10], the stem derives from {napa}V + V{'-q}V, where the latter morpheme has caused gemination of /p/ to /pp/ in the preceding stem.
