Description and behaviour

Form and usage:

This affix is a straightforward combination of passive participle V{-ðaq}N, future nominal N{kcaq}N, and N{-u}V, denoting 'Patient is to be Vb'ed', or 'shall be Vb'ed' etc. This is thus the stative passive affix V{-ðau}V, with an interpolated future marker N{kcaq}N, and this construction seems to be preferred to adding the verbal future marker V{ssa}V after V{-ðau}V. In other words, the construction

seems to be preferred over the other, logically possible, construction

for denoting future stative passive. See also the related affix V{ðukcau}V, which is a similar combination, but with the intransitive participle V{ðuq}N instead of the passive participle.

Given its meaning, the affix only makes sense on divalent stems, since it reduces the valency. The underlying Agent can be reintroduced in the Ablative case, just as with V{-ðau}V.
