Description and behaviour
Form and usage:
This affix has two meanings:
'
Subject
Vb greatly', "or 'highly' or similar. When negated with V{ŋŋit}V, the meaning obviously changes to 'not very/particularly Vb'.'(because) it is so Vb (that ...)', when used with endings in the causative mood.
Given its meaning, it is likely primarily used with adjectival stems.
Meanings and examples
or 'highly' or similar. When negated with V{ŋŋit}V: 'not very/particularly Vb'.
- pingaarpoq, it is important
Literally 'it is very' with the dummy verb stem {pi}V, giving the pure meaning of the affix.
- ajungaarpoq, it is very bad
[4]
- aliasungaarpoq, he is very saddened
[4]
- asangaarpaa, she loves him very much
[4]
- takingaanngilaq, it is not very long
[4]
With negation V{ŋŋit}V.
- ajungaanngilaq, it isn't particularly bad
[4]
With negation V{ŋŋit}V.
- erligingaanngilaa, It can easily be gotten from him
[4]
From erligaa, 'he values it highly', hence the literal translation is 'he does not value it particularly highly' (implied: and therefore, we give it away easily/cheaply).
When used with endings in the causative mood
- akisungaarmat, it is so expensive that ...
[8]
- pullangaarmat, because it is so swollen (that ...)
[8]
- qaningaarmat, because it is so close (that ...)
