Description and behaviour

Form and usage:

This affix is a variant of V{saq}V with seemingly the same meaning, 'Agent try to get Patient to Vb', although it may have stronger connotations of 'try to', perhaps implying a more deliberate attempt. This indicates that the second component of this affix is V{-aq}V, 'repeated/prolonged activity', so the present affix can perhaps be translated as 'tries repeatedly'.

The affix increases the valency of the stem by adding a new Agent to the relation: see the entry for the variant V{saq}V for details, since the present affix works similarly. Note however that V{saaq}V seems to be more commonly used with intransitive form, without an intervening HTR-morpheme, than V{saq}V. In such cases, the Agent and Patient are equated and both bound to the Subject marked in the ending, so the meaning becomes reflexive: 'Agent=Patient tries to cause/make himself be Vb'ing'.
